There are plenty of things not to like about winter. Darker mornings and evenings. Cold rain storms. Higher electricity bills and getting into the shower in the morning when it’s FREEZING! But there are also plenty of things to love about the colder months. Cosy nights in. Comfort food. Hot chocolate and of course… fashion.
Winter’s the time to layer up and rock all those pieces that have been sitting in your wardrobe gathering dust throughout the summer months. So, from Scandi minimalism to military style, we round up this season’s five top trends. Thank us later.
1) The New Seventies
Seventies style has been making a comeback throughout the last couple of seasons, but this winter it’s taking a fresh new minimalist approach. Rich caramels, burgundy, brown and other distinctively 70s-hues are kept clean and simple, without prints over-complicating things.
2) Scandi Style
This pursuit for minimalism continues through to winter’s next big trend, which encompasses contemporary Scandinavian-inspired design. Think neutral looks with wintry whites, greys and beige. Try layering a woollen grey overcoat over a chunky roll-neck knit in a darker shade of grey to nail this trend with ease.
3) Boho Chic
Often more associated with warmer months thanks to its floaty maxi dresses and sleek jumpsuits, this winter is all about adding an extra layer to the boho look. It’s all about texture and details when it comes to this trend, so opt for thick, chunky fabrics and don’t be afraid of fringing and tassels. Indigo, tan, rust and cream are all key colours here. Or, take a glam approach with boho-inspired jewellery by Samantha Wills.
4) Combat Queen
Military style is another trend resurfacing this winter, but instead of rewriting the formula – the runways stuck to what works best. Trenches and utility pants will team perfectly with plain grey tees and knits, while khaki, white and black and the shades you’ll be wanting to introduce more of to your wardrobe. Finally, channel an edge by investing in a luxe leather jacket. March on!
5) Street Feet
Last but not least, the sneakers trend looks here to stay this winter. And we couldn’t be happier! Whether you’re more a Nike or New Balance kinda gal, the key is to feel free teaming your fresh kicks with everything from basic staples, well-cut workwear and feminine dresses and knits. The best part? They’re more comfortable than anything else in your footwear collection! Minus your uggs, obviously.
