Rachel Zoe is a fashion force to be reckoned with. She’s become more famous than the celebrities she dresses and is considered to be one of the most powerful influencers in the industry.
With her namesake collection back on Brands Exclusive this weekend, we take a closer look at what makes this fierce fashionista tick.
Style A to Zoe
Rachel Zoe started her career as a fashion assistant for a magazine. Fast-forward two decades, and she is without a doubt one of the most powerful women in the industry. She’s dressed A-list celebrities such as Nicole Richie and Jennifer Garner, and became a world-famous name with her reality show, The Rachel Zoe Project. On top of all this, her book Style A To Zoe was a New York Times bestseller.
In 2011, Zoe launched her eponymous contemporary collection and the designs are very much a reflection of Rachel’s own sense of style – vintage, glamorous and bohemian.
“I take much of my inspiration from past decades – from music, books and film to vintage fashion and its icons. For me, it’s about taking a concept and finding ways to make it modern and something every woman wants to wear,” Zoe told the Council of Fashion Designers of America.
The Art of Confidence
Rachel’s namesake collection offers pieces for the modern and polished woman who is trend-conscious, loves fashion and values the collection’s functional wearability.
“I’ve always believed that fashion is more than just making someone look beautiful, it’s meant to reassure women and give them confidence. So for me, seeing women wear my collection is the most gratifying part,” she said.
However, Zoe believes wearing the perfect outfit can only get you so far.
“To be honest, it’s all about confidence. When you look better, you feel better and smile more. Trust me, it goes a long way,” she told E! online.
Fashion & Family
Rachel juggles her fashion empire with a family. She’s been with her husband Rodger Berman since they met in 1991, and they now have two sons together, four-year-old Skyler and Kai, who turns two in December.
Rachel says that having children is like taking a happy pill and brings so much joy into her life, but she admits it has also forced her to become more efficient.
“I was always told that my priorities would change [when I had children], which was true. What I didn’t realise is how much more efficient I would become with my time, simply because I had to. All of the things that used to be important, still are, but they matter in a completely different way. As a woman who’s been career-obsessed forever, I approach work with a different mindset now—it’s about trying to find the balance,” she told Whowhatwear.
Despite how busy she is, Rachel always takes the time to look effortlessly chic. And although that is her job, her favourite motto of all time (as told to InStyle) explains why fashion is so much more than just an outfit for Rachel:
“Style is a way to say who you are without having to speak.”
