As we prepare to say hello to a new year, we also get ready to say goodbye to some old trends to make way for new ones. So what are the fashion trends we’ll be rocking in 2017? From seaside stripes to the new trench coat, we round up what will be hot in the year ahead.

Seaside stripes

Nautical style seems to surface in some shape or form each season, and it looks like the summer of 2017 will be no different. Riviera-inspired seaside stripes look set to be all the range in the months ahead, so get ready to flaunt fabulous frocks with block stripes in pastel hues, or rock a jumpsuit featuring bold brights. All aboard!

“Stripes are the equivalent to what a white t-shirt used to be back in the day,” says Roopal Patel, Fashion Director of Saks Fifth Avenue. “They have nine lives. We’ve seen the trend now for two to three seasons and it will continue to carry forward.”

Artistic prints

Ready to channel your inner Picasso? Well, you’re in luck this year. An artistically-inspired theme ran across the runways for 2017, whether directly influenced by a particular artist’s work or simply nodding to various art movements throughout time. Expect splashes of painterly prints, vibrant patterns and a whole lot of colour to dominate.

Stylish sneakers

A trend that has been around for a couple of years now, 2017 looks to be no different with the popularity of stylish sneakers still going strong. Fashion trends have come and gone over the past few seasons, but sporty sneakers teamed with everything from suits to casualwear looks set to stick around. Give yours an update by opting for a pair that features a contemporary print or even embellishments such as glitter.

White shirt dresses

Scrap your standard old white shirt dress and make way for something with a twist. Think unique waistlines and unexpected hemlines to add life to the classic style; perfect for teaming with a pair of block heel wedges and statement jewellery. We’d suggest picking up a wide assortment of these easy-to-wear staples to add to your workwear repertoire.

The new trench coat

Every woman should have at least one trench coat in her wardrobe, but 2017 will be all about a modern version of the classic style staple. Slouchy fabrics? Tick. Big buckles? You bet. Extended silhouettes will polish off the look and take your boring old trend and give it the shake-up it deserves. You heard it here first…

See you in 2017, style lovers! xo
