Winter Beauties
We round up the backstage beauty trends that are set to be hot for the winter months ahead.
MBFWA 2012, backstage at Ginger and Smart
Luminous Skin
If there was one beauty trend that reached critical mass this season, it was luminous skin. A glistening, dewy base and subtle use of highlighter at Valentino brought an ethereal prettiness to skin that appeared lit from within. Aussie trendsetters Ginger and Smart added subtle warm tones to the look on eyelids and brows.
Dramatic Eye Flicks
Heavy, black, disconnected lines at Mary Katrantzou gave the classic flicked eyeliner look a modern update. On the Australian runways, the dramatic eye look was paired with nude lipstick and a bold brow at Tony Maticevski.
Pink Cheeks
Pretty flushed cheeks gave models that I’ve-just-finished-a-romantic-snow-fight look. In New York, Michael Kors added emphasis with a pale red lip, while at the Sydney shows Oroton used a matte-nude finish to bring out bronze tones.
Snow White
Swathes of white also claimed trend success – used to highlight and enlarge the eye. Fendi took the tone above and beyond the brow for an ethereal prettiness, while Australian designer Alice McCall combined the tone with black for a playful contrast.
Cherry Red Lips
Bright red lipstick was the key component of the beauty looks across in the international board for winter, worn with minimal makeup for maximum effect. At international fave Rick Owens and our very own Gary Bigeni, the finished look was pared-back with a burst of colour.
