Sydney Fashion Week: The Innovators
‘The Innovators’ group showcase – held annually at Sydney Fashion Week – features some of Australia’s most promising young talent from Sydney TAFE. This year’s show certainly held up to its title. These emerging designers each delivered an incredibly innovative collection, experimenting with texture, colour, structure and print in ways that can only be described as awe-inspiring.
Kaylene Milner: Sturm & Drang
A collection that is at once classically feminine and powerfully strong, Kaylene Milner employs innovative techniques including needle felting and weaving to mimic the beauty of the wild and overgrown. Kaylene jets off to New York next week to intern at renowned international fashion house Diane Von Furstenberg.
Carlie Waterman describes her collection as ‘technical meets textural’. She channels a striking femininity through an interesting blend of soft and structured.
Cynthia Thai: Ctee
Cynthia Thai‘s collection, inspired by Bosch‘s The Garden of Earthly Delights, employs a neon-pastel colour palette, clever use of texture and flirty tailoring to reflect the seductive beauty and desire of the epic artwork.
Stephanie Goerlach: Tibbity
Employing heavy knit, intricate beading and graphic screen printing, Stephanie Goerlach’s work seeks to reflect the wonder and whimsy for the classic fairytale Alice in Wonderland.
Christopher Baldwin: Albert Baldwin
Sharp, sophisticated and unique, Christopher Baldwin’s collection started out as a series of reptilian inspired fabrics and manipulations.
One of our stand out shows of the week, we can’t wait to see the careers of these promising young talents unfold in the years to come.
