With her innate sense of unstudied beauty, Charlotte Gainsbourg embodies the kind of ease and elegance that is only possible of someone who is extremely comfortable in their own skin.

When it comes to genetics, Charlotte Gainsbourg hit the jackpot. The daughter of musical genius Serge Gainsbourg and the gorgeous actress/singer Jane Birkin (of lauded Hermès Birkin bag fame), effortless cool clearly runs in the family — her sister too is the stunning model/actress and face of French cult label Vanessa Bruno, Lou Dillon.

Yet Gainsbourg has certainly established an extremely successful career in her own right. She has twice won a César (the French equivalent of an Oscar) as well as the Cannes 2009 best actress award for her role in Lars von Trier’s horror film Antichrist.

Indie music fans may also know her collaborations with Beck and the French electronic duo Air.

Gainsbourg’s latest  film Melancholia also directed by von Trier (due for release in Australia today), in which she stars with Kirsten Dunst and Alexander Skarsguard garnered rave reviews at Cannes earlier this year.

The epitome of Parisian chic, Gainsbourg has been the muse of the French fashion house Balenciaga for years. in 2011 she became the face of ‘Balenciaga Paris‘, the label’s first fragrance in 55 years, and this year she was photographed for yet another new Balenciaga perfume, L’Essence.

With jeans, trench coats, cowboy boots, men’s-tailored shirts and classic tees her signatures, she posesses an effortless style has kept her happily under the radar yet perpetually in the fold.
