From Paris to Bombay: Chanel’s Pre-Fall Collection

29.Dec,2011
Presenting Chanel’s 2012 pre-fall collection; a stunning homage to the extravagance and glamour of historic India.

The theme is ‘Paris-Bombay’, and the clothing a perfect hybrid of the two cites. Chanel’s signature tweed  blends seamlessly with luxurious silks, jewelled headpieces, metallic saris and beaded sandals.

The show held at Paris’ Grand Palais earlier this month was brimming with Largerfeld’s over-the-top theatrics we’ve come to expect, featuring model after model gliding down a circular runway between two long and lavish banquets. Silver trays were piled high with succulent fruits and flowers, and there was even a small silver train that delivered drinks to the guests.

Echoing classic Indian silhouettes, ‘Paris-Bombay’ is complete with modern twists on traditional Indian saris, churidars and kameezs, establishing a truly exotic aesthetic.

The collection eschews the cliché of an Indian color palette, with black, rusts, creams, and grays dominating the runway.

There was however the occasional burst of fuchsia or turquoise in key pieces.
